The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday said it had thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the International Border in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on the night of 8–9 May.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said: “The Border Security Force also foiled a major infiltration attempt at the International Boundary in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district last night, killing at least seven terrorists. Sources in the BSF stated that a large group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate was detected by the surveillance grid. The infiltration bid was reportedly supported by fire from the Pakistani Rangers’ Dhandhar post. Alert BSF troops retaliated, causing extensive damage to the Dhandhar post."

According to a statement from the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) posted on X, Pakistan also attempted to target military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, as well as locations near the International Border. However, the Indian Armed Forces successfully neutralised the attack, and no civilian casualties were reported.

Eight missiles were fired towards the Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Security officials also noted that drones were detected near Jammu airport, prompting the initiation of counter-measures.

The infiltration attempt coincided with India successfully intercepting several drones and munitions launched by Pakistani forces in Jammu. Meanwhile, blackouts were reported in at least 14 other cities, including Jaisalmer, Amritsar, and Bhuj.

The Ministry of Defence issued a statement confirming that the Indian Armed Forces intercepted multiple drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan on Wednesday night, targeting key military installations and civilian areas in northern and western cities.

The central government reiterated that the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack was the initial escalation, and that India's military response has been retaliatory in nature.

These attempted strikes and infiltration efforts come amid heightened military activity following the launch of Operation Sindoor on 7 May, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The Indian military described the strikes as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory.”
