The Trinamool Congress councillor who was shot at inside his party office on Monday night claimed that his fellow party leader was behind the attack. Police sources said they are probing his claim, but are yet to make any arrests.
TMC’s Mithun Tikadar, the councillor of ward number 20 in Budge Budge municipality, on Tuesday, 19 February, said he had clearly identified the two people who shot at him. The shooting occurred when he was at the party office, following which he was admitted to a private hospital, said police.

Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday thrashed a youth alleging that he shared a video on Facebook from an account based in Pakistan with “anti-India” content related to Pulwama attack. Khatauli police in Muzaffarnagar district later arrested the youth who works in a barber shop after lodging an FIR against him on a complaint by an ABVP leader.
The video, police said, showed a person with his face covered, saying that the terrorist attack in Pulwama was planned by India.

A 27-year-old man has been booked for allegedly placing a statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at Sambhaji Garden in Pune. Hours after the accused, Ganesh Karle (27), allegedly placed the statue on a platform at the civic garden, police removed it from the spot.
Police said Karle entered the garden at around 3 am and placed the statue, made of plastic, on a platform.
A message on a piece of paper, found at the spot, warned that if the statue was removed, ‘there would be consequences in the state.’ Police said Karle had also put up a photo of him and the statue at the spot on social media.

A 20-year-old woman was seriously injured on Monday after she fell several feet from the Delhi’s Vikaspuri flyover onto the road below following an accident.
The woman, who police identified as Sapna, suffered multiple fractures and is undergoing treatment in Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) hospital. Her two friends, Kunal (18) and Jia Banerjee (22), who were riding with her on a motorcycle at the time of the accident, were also injured but were not thrown off the flyover and are out of danger.
Police said that all three victims work in a salon in west Delhi’s Meera Bagh. They were returning home after work when the mishap took place in the afternoon. Sapna was riding pillion along with Jia.

A Class 12 student of a local junior college in Pune was duped of Rs 3.6 lakh on a mobile application, which claimed to set up the teenager on a blind date with woman for a fee.
A case was registered against unidentified people at the Chatuhshrungi police station. The teenager, who is the complainant, was duped of Rs 3,64,070 on the mobile application, Locanto, which claims to be an online classified advertisement platform.
The police are on the lookout for the persons who had posted the advertisement.
The online dating platform asked for a deposit in return for an access to the services of the portal.

Four persons, including one by name, have been booked for allegedly raping a 32-year-old woman at Rajasansi village, 10 kms from the district headquarter, police said on Tuesday, 19 February.
One of the accused has been identified as Ajmer Singh of Harsha Chhina village while the identity of three others was yet to be ascertained by the police.
The victim is a labourer and is living in the village. Police have booked the accused on the victim’s complaint. She said, “On Monday, at around 7 pm, I was waiting for a bus at Rajasansi bus stop when the accused, in a white car, reached there and forcibly pulled me in the car. They then took me to an abandoned house in the village.”

A 28-year-old woman from Boisar in Maharashtra’s Palghar was arrested for allegedly killing her husband and then trying to mislead police by filing a missing complaint, an official said.
An unidentified body of a man, with multiple injury marks, was found near a sewage treatment plant in the MIDC area here on 16 February, police said.
A probe identified the body as that of Anil Kumar Rawat (32) and also found that his wife Mamta had filed a missing person's complaint on 13 February, the official said.

In a setback to the ruling CPI(M), its local leader A Peethambaran was arrested on Tuesday, 19 February, in connection with the killing of two Youth Congress activists in Kasaragod district, as the Governor sought an urgent report from the state government on the status of the police probe.
Soon after Peethambaran's arrest was recorded by police, Kasaragod district committee expelled him from the party following directions from the state committee, a CPI(M) statement.
Stating that the CPI(M) never promoted violence, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the party state leadership had earlier said it had no role in the killings.

A 15-year-old girl has alleged that she was raped by four youths for three days in Odisha’s Cuttack, police said Tuesday, 19 February.
The girl was rescued by members of the district Child Welfare Committee from Cuttack Railway station, they said.
CWC member Amiya Biswal quoting the girl from Bantala in Angul district said the minor was brought here on Saturday by three of her acquaintances to take part in a rally. After the rally, she was left alone at Mangalabag square from where the youths took her to a nearby house and allegedly raped her.
