1. Stepmother Held for Planning Gangrape, Murder of 9-Year-Old in Kashmir’s Baramulla

The stepmother and stepbrother of a nine-year-old girl, whose mutilated and decomposed body was found in the forests of Boniyar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, are among the nine accused to be arrested for her gang-rape and brutal murder, police said.

The girl, a resident of a local village, went missing on 24 August and all efforts to trace her failed. Her body was found on Sunday, 2 September, leading to protests in the area.

Baramulla’s senior superintendent of police (SSP), Imtiyaz Hussain said that after a police recorded the statement of her father, it was found that he had two wives, one from a nearby village and another, who is a non-local and hails from Jharkhand. The missing girl was the latter’s daughter.

2. 16-Year-Old Boy Lynched in Delhi, Police Probe If Evidence Was Tampered with

A 16-year-old boy, who had come from Kanpur to Delhi ten days ago in search of a job, was allegedly beaten to death by at least six men from his neighbourhood in northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur during the early hours of Tuesday, 4 September.

The police said two men arrested for the crime alleged that they had caught the boy stealing from their house, after which the six beat him up. The four other men suspected to have killed the boy are absconding.

Officers said the teenager was from Arariya in Bihar. He had been studying in a local madrasa in Kanpur before coming to Delhi. Soon after reaching Delhi, he found an apprenticeship as an electrician in Mukandpur. He used to live with his elder brother, Mushahid, and two of his uncles.

3. Nigerian National Arrested In Ghaziabad For Online Theft Of Rs 50 Lakh

In a joint operation, Sahibabad police and cyber-crime cell arrested a man from Nigeria from Ghaziabad's Rajendra Nagar area on Tuesday, 4 September, over charges of online fraud, police said.

The arrested was identified as Friday, son of Ogboo, a native of Lagos in Nigeria. At present, Friday was living in a rented home in Tilak Nagar, New Delhi.

The police arrested Friday using his call details.

City SP Shlok Kumar said Sahibabad police had received a complaint from one Dinesh Kumar that a Nigerian national had defrauded him of Rs 2 lakh on the pretext of helping him establish a gold business.

Mr Kumar had transferred the sum into the account of Friday through net banking. However, when Mr Kumar called him, there was no reply. Following which, Mr Kumar lodged a complaint.

Police have recovered three laptops and three mobile phones which were used for the crime.

4. Burglars Break into SBI Strong Room, Decamp with over Rs 1 Crore

Burglars broke into the strong room of a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Amreli town and decamped with Rs 1.35 crore. The incident took place on Saturday, 1 September, police said. The bank officials found out about the burglary after it opened on Tuesday, 4 September, following a two-day holiday on Sunday and Monday (Janmashtami). They found the safe at the strong room broken.

The bank reported the matter to Amreli district police and started counting the cash to ascertain the exact amount the burglars had decamped with. Late on Tuesday evening, police said the burglars had pulled off a heist of Rs 1,35,30,000.

“Counting of cash is still on and we are yet to know the exact amount of cash the thieves have stolen. But prima facie, it is more than Rs 1 crore,” Superintendent of Police of Amreli Nirlipt Rai told The Indian Express.

5. Teen Allegedly Rapes Facebook Friend; Girl Initially Blamed Tutor For It

A teenager was detained for allegedly raping a girl whom he befriended on Facebook, police said Tuesday, 4 September.

The 19-year-old girl had initially accused her tutor of raping her, they added.

The girl had on Monday, 3 September, gone to attend coaching classes but did not reach home till late night. When her family members inquired, she claimed that she was raped by her teacher, police said.

When the teacher was questioned he told the police that the girl had not attended the classes. CCTV footage showed that she was roaming with a minor boy, police said.

The minor was apprehended and he confessed to have raped the girl, police said. The duo had become friends on Facebook, police added.

6. Woman Sets Herself On Fire In Front Of Hyderabad Police Station

A 25-year-old married woman allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself on fire in front of Bowenpally Police Station in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 4 September, police said.

The woman, who has two children, resorted to the act at around 12.30 pm due to some family problems, Inspector P Vijay Kumar said.

He said her husband had sent her back to her parents' house about two months back after learning that she was allegedly in a relationship with another man.

The woman is suspected to have doused herself with a bottle of petrol and lit herself even as police and locals rushed to her rescue and shifted her to a local hospital, the Inspector said.

She suffered 45 percent burns in the incident.

7. Class IX Boy Kills 15-Yr-Old in Shamli

A Class IX student allegedly shot dead a 15-year-old boy while the latter was standing outside a bookshop in Shamli district’s Kandhla area on Tuesday, 4 September.

The victim — identified as Prayanshu — was a Class X student and resident of Sarnawali village in Muzaffarnagar, situated around 13 km from Kandhla. The accused belongs to another village in Muzaffarnagar. Police said the accused and his cousin, who was also allegedly at the spot, are absconding. An FIR was registered against the two boys on murder charges on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s uncle, Manpal.

The murder is suspected to be a fallout of an altercation that took place around a month ago between Prayanshu and the accused while they were playing. As per preliminary investigation, Prayanshu had allegedly thrashed the accused during the argument, said Additional Superintendent of police, Shamli, Ajay Pratap Singh.

8. Extortion Case: Wanted Man Found Murdered, Cops to Probe Complainant Doctor

Jaunpur police on Monday, 3 September, recovered the body of 35-year-old Akhilesh Singh, wanted in connection with an extortion case since June. While a case has been lodged against unidentified accused, police said the role of a Varanasi-based doctor, from whom Akhilesh Singh had allegedly demanded Rs 30 lakh, is also being probed.

The accused’s body, which bore injury marks on the neck caused by a sharp-edged weapon, was recovered from a dry well close to his house in Gopalpur village. His legs had also been tied up. Police said a villager spotted the body and informed them.

“We have decided to probe the role of the doctor, Ravi Singh, who had got the extortion case lodged. Akhilesh Singh had not been staying at his house since after Varanasi police started conducting raids while looking for him. We suspect Akhilesh had come to his house Sunday night and the assailants murdered him,” said Station House Officer (SHO) of Rampur police station, Prashant Srivastava.

9. Property Dealer Shot Dead in South Delhi’s Batla House

A 35-year-old property dealer was shot dead allegedly by two unidentified gunmen in south Delhi’s Batla House near Jamia Nagar on Monday, 3 September, evening.

Police said the attackers were wearing helmet and ran away after firing four rounds at the property dealer. The victim’s family members, however, claimed that six rounds were fired and the assailants had come on a motorcycle.

Police have registered a case of murder at the Jamia Nagar police station. Police said their initial probe has revealed that the deceased, Dilshad Khan, had a property dispute with somebody over a property. They are also probing to see if contract killers were involved in the case.
