1. Army Captain Found Hanging, Note Recovered
A 47-year-old Indian Army captain allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar Friday, 22 February, afternoon.
A suicide note was recovered from the spot, which indicates he was “stressed”, police said.
According to police, Jayantha Kumar M was posted with the central base post office. “The incident came to light after police received a call at around 1 pm. They rushed to the spot and found him hanging using a bedsheet. He used to live alone,” a senior police officer said.

2. Minor Raped in Bihar Village, Pictures Uploaded on Social Media
A minor girl was allegedly gang raped and the pictures of the crime were circulated on social media by the accused at a village in this district, police said Friday.
The incident, that occurred more than a week ago, came to light after the photographs taken by the accomplices of the perpetrators surfaced on social media, the police said.
According to the SHO of the Mansoorchak police station Arvind Kumar, the girl was sexually assaulted on February 11 by three people and two others took pictures of the heinous act on their mobile phones.
The SHO said the perpetrators had threatened the girl to kill her family members if she spoke about the incident.

3. Two Sisters Dead After Truck Rams Ambulance Ferrying Girl to Hospital
An 18-year-old girl being transported to a Gurgaon hospital from Manesar and her 23-year-old sister who was accompanying her died on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday, 22 February, after the ambulance they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck. The driver of the truck is absconding.
According to police, the incident took place near Kherki Daula toll plaza around 2.15 am. The victims were identified by police as Sonam and Baby.
In the complaint submitted to Gurgaon police, their older brother, Suresh Babu, said the sisters stayed with him and his mother on rent in Kasan village.

4. Three-Member Panel to Look into Girl’s Sexual Assault Inside Gurgaon School
A day after a sweeper at a private school was arrested by Gurgaon police for sexually assaulting a minor girl student inside the school toilet, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri on Friday, 22 February, formed a three-member committee to probe the incident and the role of the school. “The committee comprises the SHO, Education Officer and Tehsildar. I expect their report by Wednesday,” said Khatri.
CWC chairperson Shakuntala Dhull said they will also conduct an enquiry. “We will look into the incident to see if there was any negligence on the part of the school… Further action will be taken according to the findings,” she said.

5. Sena Sacks Youth Activists Who Allegedly Assaulted Two Kashmiri Students in Yavatmal
The Shiv Sena on Friday sacked the youth activists who allegedly assaulted two Kashmiri students studying at a college in Yavatmal city.
In the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack which killed 40 CRPF jawans, there were reports of assaults against Kashmiris and students from the Valley.
Calling Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray said the anger (over Pulwama) should be directed towards terrorism and not innocent people.

6. Elgar Parishad Case: Police File Charge Sheet Against Top Maoist Ganapathy, 4 Others
Pune police on Thursday filed a supplementary chargesheet in a special Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) court against five persons — Sudha Bharadwaj, Varavara Rao, Arun Ferriera, Vernon Gonsalves and top fugitive Maoist operative Ganapathy — in connection to the Elgar Parishad case.
Muppala Lakshamana Rao alias Ganapathy, 72, a top Maoist commander, stepped down as general secretary of the banned outfit Communist Party of India (Maoist) central committee on 7 November 2018.
According to police officials, Ganapathy was made accused in the case eight days ago. The chargesheet states that Rao along with Ganapathy and other accused actively participated to achieve the goals of CPI (Maoist).

7. 23-Year-Old TN Teacher Murdered Inside Classroom by Stalker
A 23-year-old teacher from Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu was hacked to death in the premises of the private school she worked in on Friday, 22 February. Her attacker has been identified as Rajasekhar, a youth who allegedly murdered the woman for rejecting his marriage proposal.
On Friday morning, the victim, Ramya, was amongst the first of the staff to arrive at the school to open all the classrooms. The teacher was sitting alone in one of the rooms when Rajasekhar allegedly entered the premises and found her. He then used a sharp object to attack her, cutting her neck and face. Ramya died on the spot.

8. For a Dowry of Rs 20 Lakh, Man Poses as Fake Bihar Government Servant, Held
Patna police on Thursday, 21 February, arrested a man who would introduce himself as a secretariat assistant for getting a dowry of Rs 20 lakh and a luxury vehicle, from secretariat campus under the same police station. Police has registered a case in Sachiwalaya police station on the basis of the statement of the girl.
Police has identified the arrested person as Shiv Shankar, a resident of Banka district in Bihar. He was later sent to the judicial custody.

9. Maharashtra: 3 Sentenced to Life in Prison for Gang-Raping Teen
Three persons have been sentenced to life in prison by a court in Thane in Maharashtra for gang-raping a newly-wed teen.
District Judge S A Sinha, in a recent order, convicted Naveen Ashok Bagade (43), Santosh Yashwant Shelke (22) and Rajkumar Tikeshwar Sahani (29) under section 376 D (rape by one or more persons constituting a group) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
The three, all residents of Mithpada in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in the district, were also fined Rs 15,000 while four others were acquitted in the case.
