Mumbai has been listed as the most expensive city to live in India coming in at number 82 on the global list by the Mercer 2016 Cost of Living Survey which was released on Wednesday, reported Forbes India.

It beat other cities like Seattle, Frankfurt, Canberra and Berlin, while Bengaluru witnessed the highest jump in ranking from 2015.

The report revealed that New Delhi and Bengaluru have become more expensive in 2015. Due to rising prices, especially on items pertaining to food and personal care, which impact inflation, Bengaluru has witnessed the highest jump in ranking.

There is an increase in the prices of “luxury” items such as cheese, poultry and coffee across price ranges, the report said.

Bengaluru is also one of the most expensive cities in India on account of transportation, which include taxi fares, cost of auto and auto parts as well as running costs.

Kolkata

Kolkata is the least expensive Indian city and comes in at 194.

According to the report, Hong Kong tops the list of most expensive cities for expatriates, pushing Luanda in Angola to second position. Zurich and Singapore remain in third and fourth positions, respectively, whereas Tokyo in Japan is in fifth, up six places from last year.
