Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Advisor to the Indian Finance Ministry, shared his insights on the state of the Indian economy on the first anniversary of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) being in power, through two interviews given to NDTV, and Moneycontrol.com.

In his opinion, our country has been doing well economically.

Arvind Subramanian, previously a senior fellow of International Economics at the Peterson Institute of International Economics and Canter of Global Development, has shed some light on the situation of the country at present.

The economy is perking up, not as much as we’d like it to, but it is perking up.

— Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Advisor

In his opinion, the country has managed to control it’s fiscal deficit, i.e. the difference between the income it receives and its expenditure on goods and services.

Also, according to Mr Subramanian, it is rural consumption, which is really holding us back.

If we want to call ourselves a developed country, and not a developing country, one should help rural people in getting their deserved income.

Maybe next time you go to the market, you should buy home-grown Kashmiri apples instead of those imported, American Fuji apples.
