One Civilian, Five Commandos Injured in IED Blast in Imphal

At least six persons, including five police commandos, were injured in a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Imphal town of Manipur on Tuesday, 5 November, police said.

The blast occurred at Thangal Bazaar at 9.30 am.

Among those injured were Lambam Amarjit, additional superintendent of police (Operations) of Imphal West district, Thongam Devan sub- inspector (SI), two assistant SIs and a rifleman named Nigmombam, a police officer said.

A civilian named Krishna Gurung was also injured in the blast that also caused damage to some vehicles, he said.

The injured persons were rushed to a private hospital, the officer said, adding that the blast site has been cordoned off.

“This is a heinous and coward act. We condemn it strongly. Those responsible for this will be punished,” said Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh who visited the site later, reported India Today.

Tuesday's blast is the second one in four days in Imphal.

On 2 November, an IED blast triggered by unidentified persons at Telipati area in Imphal East district injured three BSF jawans.
