Flash Flood Hits Tripura, Families Take Shelter in Relief Camps
Affected areas include North Tripura, Unakoti and Dhalai districts of Tripura.
Over 300 families were left homeless and forced to take shelter in relief camps across Tripura, after heavy rains led to flash floods in several parts of the states on Saturday, 25 May.
The flood was mainly caused after the water level of river Juri and river Kakti started rising and came close to the danger level, as per an ANI report.
Recuse Teams Deployed
Following this, teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to aid the affected families. Apart from NDRF teams, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), firefighter team, district and state administration also joined the rescue operations.
Moreover, at least nine speed boats and 40 rescue boats were deployed by the state revenue department to evacuate those stuck inside their homes in submerged places.
Speaking to ANI, a state official said that the state government was expecting to bring the situation under control within the next 24 hours.
"There are more than 350 people in eight relief camps," the official added.
