2 Yrs Post Note Ban, Rs 3.5 Cr In Old Currency Seized in Gujarat

On Sunday, 10 February, police seized Rs 3.5 crore in banned notes from a village in Bilimora, Gujarat, reported ANI.

“We have arrested four people. An Accent car and the money have been seized from them.”

Shaileshgiri Goswamy, investigating officer of the local crime branch.

The incident was reported to the state’s excise officials, reported The Hindustan Times.

The seized notes came in 13,432 notes of 1,000 rupees and 43,300 notes of old 500 rupees.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of demonetisation and the banning of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes sent the country into a tizzy. The government’s aim was to purge black money from the market, and the move resulted in chaos with citizens scrambling to convert their ‘old’ notes into new, acceptable denominations.
