#GoodNews: Madurai Law Aspirant Invited to Address UN Forum

Premalatha Tamilselvan, a 21-year-old law aspirant from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, has been invited to address the Social Forum, an annual meeting convened by the UN Human Rights Council, The Hindu reported.

She will address the forum at the screening of A Path to Dignity: The Power of Human Rights Education – a documentary produced by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in which she featured.

Premalatha, a History graduate, told the press that she wanted to become a lawyer to tackle social issues.

“The opportunity is a pleasure for me. There are many castes in our country, we don’t want these castes. I’ll use this opportunity and speak to the United Nations. I want to study law but I’ve been denied this opportunity many times. I should be given this opportunity.”

Premalatha, in the 2012 documentary, reportedly spoke on human rights and caste and gender disparity.
