Calvin & Hobbes Explain Why the Note Ban Is a Lot Like Calvinball

The last ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ strip may have been printed over two decades ago, but the popularity of the comic strip has not waned a bit. The Bill Watterson-authored adventures of a six-year-old-boy and his stuffed tiger remain as relevant as ever.

A techie in Chennai decided to use the Calvinball game from the comic to depict the confusion surrounding demonetisation.

Calvinball is a game wherein the rules keep changing as the game progresses. The game’s only rule is that you can’t play it the same way twice. Calvinball is, in many ways, the perfect metaphor for the way the demonetisation process has unfolded so far. 

Krish Ashok, an IT consultant, has created a few hilarious comic strips to represent the multiple changes that have been issued since the 8 November demonetisation announcement.

The idea itself came from someone on Twitter casually mentioning that these random rule changes are like Calvinball.

Calvin also took on the task of ‘mansplaining’ demonetisation to Susie.

Ashok also took a dig at those comparing the demonetisation woes to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the National Anthem.
