Cricketer Gautam Gambhir is facing backlash for a tweet where he described the Indian tricolour and the meaning of its colours.

Gambhir posted the tweet after a video surfaced on Wednesday, showing CRPF jawans being assaulted by a mob in Srinagar, during the recent elections in the Kashmir valley.

Gambhir’s definition of the Indian tricolour was off the mark.

In the national flag of India, the top band is of Saffron colour, indicating the strength and courage of the country. The white middle band indicates peace and truth with a Dharma Chakra. The last band is green in colour and depicts the fertility, growth and auspiciousness of the land.

Many people did not take kindly to Gambhir’s description of the tricolour.

Many even spoke in favour of Gambhir, supporting his stance that “Kashmir belongs to us.”
