About 30 odd students were issued notices by the FTII administration to vacate hostels, stating that their academic work were complete.

One of the said notices.

FTII Director Prashant Pathrabe said that he had also taken an “administrative decision” to discontinue the services of 82 contract employees, mainly those giving technical support to academic film projects, since classes are not being held at the campus.

The 30 students, who were directed to vacate their hostel rooms, include 13 students who were served notices by the FTII management for overstaying. Pathrabe said that as many as 50 students of the 2008 batch students are yet to complete their film project. “It has now been decided to do an as-is-where-is basis assessment of their projects by the faculty,” he said, adding that he had consulted the FTII Dean in this regard.

Students have informed that none of their works are complete, or have been submitted, so there is no question of overstaying, or illegally occupying rooms.

A student’s response to the notice.

The Students’ Association, FTII has written a letter in response saying the students who have been served these notices are still working on their diploma films, and are yet to submit. They are clear that – “This notice is also seen as one of many tactics used to arm-twist us by reducing the strength of students on strike, forcing them to leave the campus when their projects are not yet complete.”
