Former Union Minister Najma Heptullah to be New Manipur Governor

Heptullah, the Former Minister of Minority Affairs had resigned in July as she has crossed 75 years of age.

Doctor Najma Heptullah will be appointed as the new Governor of Manipur. She will be the 18th Governor of the state.

Heptullah, the Former Minister of Minority Affairs in the Modi government had resigned on 12 July 2016 as she has crossed 75 years of age.

Three other Governors were also appointed by President Pranab Mukherjee:

  • Former Rajya Sabha MP VP Singh Badnore: Punjab
  • Banwarilal Purohit, a three-time former member of Lok Sabha from Nagpur and Managing Editor of Central India’s daily The Hitavada: Assam
  • Delhi-based BJP leader and former MLA Prof Jagdish Mukhi: Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Heptulla relieved Governor of Meghalaya, V Shamuganathan, of the charge in Manipur which he was handling in addition to his state since 30 September 2015.
