"Soon, Hindu cremations will be banned," is what Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy tweeted on Tuesday, following the Supreme Court's ban on sale of firecrackers till 1 November in the Delhi-NCR region.

He stated that as a Hindu, he felt agitated hearing the news as Diwali comes only once in a year, as CNN News18 reported.

I personally feel very unhappy about these restrictions put on age old Hindu festivals. Diwali is an ancient, all India festival. We burst crackers to drive away spooks and a restriction is being put on it.

On the nature of the statement, he said he was "not crossing any constitutional limit" and that the governor of a state is not supposed to act mute.
