Fire Breaks Out in Kolkata’s Bagri Market, Rescue Ops Continue
The fire couldn’t be controlled even after 12 hours, said locals.
A massive fire broke out in Central Kolkata's Bagri Market on Sunday, 16 September. No casualties have been reported yet.
An official from the fire department said that the fire erupted around 2.45 am.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said: "There is no report of any casualty or of anyone being trapped inside."
Mayor Sovan Chatterjee rushed to the spot and said: "It is very difficult to douse the massive fire. The road is very congested, the fire-fighters are finding it difficult to place the ladders. The fire is spreading to different floors."
He said the building was filled with inflammable materials.
“We've reached from ground to top floor and have succeeded in containing fire but due to presence of chemical there, it’s difficult to contain pockets of fire inside. Now 35 fire tenders and 250 firemen are here and operation is going on continuously,” the Deputy Director of the Fire Department told ANI.
The fire was not doused completely until about 4 pm in the evening. Angry businessmen said that the fire couldn't be controlled even after 12 hours.
