A muslim organisation in Tamil Nadu has issued a fatwa against Ramdev’s Patanjali products, saying they contain cow urine, considered ‘haram’ or forbidden in Islam.

The Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamat (TNTJ) said that cow urine was being used as a key ingredient in Patanjali cosmetics, medicines and food products.

According to our beliefs, cow urine is haram, and should not be used. Therefore, TNTJ issues a fatwa that products of Patanjali are haram.

The fatwa was issued to ensure that Muslims were made aware and did not consume the products.

But Ramdev’s aide Acharya Balkrishna clarified that Patanjali never concealed any information about cow urine in the products, ANI reports.

We make more than 800 products out of which only five contain cow urine. Patanjali has never concealed any information about which products contain cow urine and which don’t. Whichever organisation has issued this fatwa I’d say, it’s out of lack of knowledge.
