‘Govt Deceived Us’: UP, Uttarakhand Farmers Plan to Leave Burari

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, 2 December, Sardar VM Singh, convenor of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, said that there was ‘no point for farmers from UP and Uttarakhand to stay in Burari’, as the government had not met them despite them doing what Home Minister Amit Shah had asked.

Meanwhile, Pratibha Shinde of Lok Sangharsh Morcha said on that Thursday is the government’s last change to repeal the laws or the movement ‘will become so huge that the government will fall.’

UP administration, on Wednesday, shifted protesting farmers to Dr Ambedkar Memorial Park from Mahamaya flyover road, where they had gathered from different areas of UP.

  • The government met farmer groups from Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday.
    During the meeting, the Union Ministers conveyed to the farmers the benefits of the Acts brought to improve the agricultural sector
  • The farmers’ representatives, however, termed the laws as contrary to their interests
  • Meanwhile, government has proposed to set up an expert committee to discuss the issues of farmers further, so that they can be resolved by mutual consent
  • The farmers’ representatives, however, rejected the government’s proposal to constitute a committee, maintaining that all the delegates will go through further discussions to resolve the matter

Various Issues Discussed: Agri Min Statement on Talks With Farmers

"It has been suggested by the government to the representatives of farmers' union to identify the specific issues related to farm reform acts and share with the government on December 2, 2020 for consideration. These issues will be discussed during the fourth round of meeting to be held on December 3, 2020," an Agriculture Ministry statement said.

The government has assured that it is always committed to protect the interest of farmers and is always open for discussions for farmers' welfare.

"Various issues related to farm reform acts were discussed at length and talks were held in a cordial atmosphere," the statement said.

Delhi's Chilla Border Closed for Traffic

The Chilla border on Noida-link road is closed for traffic due to farmers protests near Gautam Budh Dwar.

“People are advised to avoid Noida-link road for going to Noida and use NH-24 and DND instead for Noida,” the Delhi Traffic Police said on Wednesday.

Positive Dialogue Being Held With Farmers at Singhu Border: Cops

Gaurav Sharma, DCP, Outer North-Delhi on Wednesday said that positive dialogue is being held with the protesting farmers at the Singhu border.

“We have arrangements in place to contain any law and order situation,” he added, according to ANI.

A meeting is underway at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, where Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal are present, ANI reported.

Northern Railway Cancels Six Trains Due to Farmers’ Protest in Amritsar

Northern Railway on Wednesday said that six trains will remain cancelled in Punjab in view of the ongoing farmers’ rail blockade at Jandiala Guru near Amritsar against the farm laws, Hindustan Times reported.

Ambala divisional railway manager GM Singh said, “Farmers continue to protest at Jandiala Guru in Amritsar district so the railway authorities have to plan routes of various trains accordingly.”

Police Use Water Cannons on Punjab Youth Congress Workers

Police on Wednesday used water cannons on Punjab Youth Congress workers who have gheraoed Haryana CM ML Khattar's residence, demanding an apology from him for alleged use of force against protesting farmers, ANI reported.

Police Remove Barricades at Delhi-Noida Border

Police have removed barricades at the Delhi-Noida border, allowing movement of traffic, ANI reports.

While the Chilla border continues to be closed, Delhi Traffic Police said that people could now use the DND flyway to reach Noida.

Gwalior Farmers Leave for Delhi

Farmers from Gwalior on Wednesday, 2 December, left for Delhi to join the protest against the Centre’s farm laws, reported ANI.

Govt Deceived Farmers From UP, Uttarakhand: Sardar VM Singh

Speaking at a press conference, Sardar VM Singh, convenor of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, according to ANI, said that there was no point for them to stay in Burari.

“The home minister had said that the government will talk to farmers who will sit in Burari. After his appeal, farmers from Uttarakhand and UP came here but the government didn’t invite us for talks yesterday.”

Govt Should Call Special Parliament Session, Repeal Laws: Darshan Pal

“We demand that the central government should call a special Parliament session to repeal the farm laws,” said Darshan Pal, President of Krantikari Kisan Union, according to ANI.

He further said that “we also held talks with Tikait Ji (of Bharatiya Kisan Union), he told us that he is with us.”

'Temporary Jail,' Say Farmers After UP Admin Relocates Them

UP administration, on Wednesday, shifted protesting farmers to Dr Ambedkar Memorial Park from Mahamaya flyover road, where they had gathered from different areas of UP, according to ANI.

Noida DCP Rajesh Kumar Singh had reportedly justified the administration’s decision by saying: "Since protesters were sitting on road causing traffic jam, we've to shift them here.”

Meanwhile, Swaraj Singh, Bhartiya Kisan Union, (Lok Shakti) said that they perceive the new location as a ‘temporary jail.’

Repeal the Laws Tomorrow, or Your Government Will Fall: Pratibha Shinde

Pratibha Shinde of Lok Sangharsh Morcha said on Wednesday, 2 December, that tomorrow (Thursday) is the government’s last change to repeal the laws or the movement will become so huge that the government will fall.

“We'll burn effigies in every district of Maharashtra tomorrow and on 5th Dec in Gujarat to protest against Centre. Tomorrow is last chance for govt to take decision to repeal the laws otherwise this movement will become huge and government will fall,” Shinde said.
