Five people who were travelling via the Kerala Express train on Tuesday, 11 June died in Jhansi due to severe heat, The News Minute reported on Wednesday, citing the post-portem report.

Some of them suffered intense bouts of vomiting and collapsed inside the train as it was about to reach the Jhansi railway station, a railway official reportedly said.

The five senior citizens who lost their lives were from Tamil Nadu.

The bodies of the deceased will reach the state on Wednesday evening, their family members told TNM.

"All of them were in the age group of 70-90,” news agency ANI had quoted Manoj Kumar Singh, Railway PRO in Jhansi, as saying on Tuesday.

A team of doctors was rushed to the train after the victims complained of ill health, Singh had said, adding that they were given a medical check-up at Jhansi railway station.

Three of the victims were declared dead on the spot while others were admitted to hospital where they died during treatment.
