Ex-MLA’s Son Rams Car Into Shelter, Kills 5 in Lucknow

Police said the MLA’s son did not possess a driving license at the time of the incident.

Five people were killed and eight others critically injured after a car rammed into a temporary night shelter for the homeless in Lucknow’s Dalibagh area on Sunday morning.

Police said Ayush Kumar, son of former MLA late Ashok Kumar, was driving the car at the time of the incident.

Ayush and his friend Nikhil Arora, both in their 20s, were later arrested.

According to the police, Rawat did not have his driving license at the time of the incident and was in an inebriated state.

Both have been booked under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 338 for causing grievous hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others and 279 for endangering human lives by reckless driving.

The police has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the family members of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the critically injured.
