A swirling nebula will no longer settle into the familiar and well-loved Doordarshan logo. After nearly six decades, the state-owned broadcaster has announced plans to revamp its logo and wants to crowd source suggestions for the design. On Monday night, Doordarshan asked the public for entries.

The broadcaster now wants to revamp its image for the "children of liberalisation who have not grown up with Doordarshan," Livemint quoted Shashi Shekhar Vempati, CEO at Prasar Bharati, the broadcaster that runs All India Radio and Doordarshan, as saying.

The current logo – a human eye – has been with the DD since 1959. The move comes amid Prasar Bharati's efforts to bolster viewership among the younger generation. The broadcaster is also looking to introduce new channels for children, youth and music and has also brought back some of its popular old shows from the 1980s on DD National.

The entries for new logos is open till 13 August and the winner will be given a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
