A video of a member of national broadcaster Doordarshan has emerged from Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada after a cameraman and two policemen were killed in an ambush by Naxals in the state on Tuesday, 30 October.

“We are in Dantewada for the election coverage and we have been attacked,” says the crew member, Mormukut Sharma, in the video.

Gunshots can be heard in the video while the DD crew member explains the situation on the ground.

“I am staring straight in the eye of death but I am not scared. But mom, I love you and I doubt that I will survive,” Sharma added.

However, Sharma survived the attack and earlier, on 30 October, speaking to ANI he said:

“Our team had come here to cover the story that the village will have its first election. We were on three bikes. The bike, on which the cameraman was sitting was in the front, rolled over as soon as they were shot. So, we immediately understood that it’s a naxal attack.”

Condoling the death of cameraman Achyuta Nanda Sahu, Sharma added, “The cameraperson was a true professional. He has been with DD for 6-7 years. We didn't expect something like this would happen.”
