The body of a 19-year-old domestic help was found hanging at a doctor couple's residence in the AWHO society in Greater Noida, police said on Monday, 27 November.

The doctor couple said the domestic help committed suicide, but her parents alleged she was killed, the police said.

Other domestic helps in the housing society protested the incident for about an hour on 27 November. They alleged the teenager was sexually abused and killed when she objected to the same.

The doctor couple hanged her body to make it look like suicide, they alleged.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the woman’s parents, the couple has been booked on charges of murder. A probe is underway.

Former Brigadier YP Goyal, president of the Resident Welfare Association of the Army Welfare Housing Organisation, Gurjinder Vihar, claimed it was “suicide and not murder.”

The couple claimed they had gone out on Monday evening, and when they returned home, they found the body of the domestic help hanging from the ceiling fan.

Police were informed and the body was taken to the Yatharth Hospital, they said.

The police have registered a case against Dr Puja Rastogi, head of department of forensic science at a private university, and her husband Mukul Gupta, an engineer with a private firm in Greater Noida.

The mother of the deceased last saw her daughter alive at 4.30 pm on 27 November.

Although the family of the deceased and other protesters, who had blocked the road, claimed the cause of death was murder, the post-mortem confirmed the cause of death was hanging.

There were no signs of sexual assault, Suniti added.
