A girl of class 12 was found dead at her residence on Saturday, 27 January, in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria. According to the police, the student had set herself on fire allegedly because the son of her school’s principal attempted to sexually assault her.
Anil Kumar, the Station House Officer of Gauri Bazar, told the Hindustan Times that on the basis of a complaint by the deceased’s grandmother, the police has registered a case against six people which includes the principal of the school as well.
The prime suspect in the case had allegedly called the victim to the principal’s office and sexually harassed her. Moreover, he is also accused of threatening the girl to keep quiet about the incident that took place in the room.
The police said a resident saw the act through a window and had informed the girl’s brother. The brother rushed to the school and thrashed the prime suspect. The accused assaulter later retaliated by beating up her brother after he barged into the victim’s house with his friends. This incident shocked the girl so much that she locked herself in the room and set herself on fire, the police said.
The locals gathered at the police station and demanded the immediate arrest of the suspect.
