Demonetisation has broken the country’s back irrespective of age and class. If you thought using plastic money could be a way of circumventing this catastrophe, then you’re living in a tiny little bubble. It looks like your credit and debit cards may betray you now too.

When PM Modi announced that he’d be killing a major chunk of our currency (read: Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes), our first instinct was to refurbish virtual wallets and flash debit and credit cards for making payments. Four days later, we are where we were on Tuesday: cashless and stranded. Not a single ATM seems to be working and plastic money servers seem to have crashed.

Here’s how the market appears to be faltering, one block at a time.
