It is not every day that we get to see people flaunting their money on social media websites!

But with banks issuing the brand new Rs 2,000 notes from today, the lucky ones who managed to catch hold of them are celebrating their feat by posting their selfies on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise announcement on Tuesday that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes will cease to be used for transactions, several people faced inconveniences throughout Wednesday. Banks and ATMs too were shut.

The government claimed that the measure is an attempt to clamp down on the menace of black money and corruption.

Long queues were witnessed across the country when banks reopened on Thursday, with people wanting to deposit their old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and get the new currency in exchange.

After a day of ‘financial limbo’, people could not contain their excitement and flocked to social media to mark ‘a new chapter’ in India’s financial history.
