A 21-year-old MSc student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room on Friday, 13 April. According to The Times of India, the student was suffering from depression because he was sexually abused as a child.

The boy, who hails from Kolkata, has also named people in his note. The police were informed about the incident when the boy’s roommate found him hanging from the ceiling fan. The body was sent to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital for autopsy.

The TOI report states that the boy had allegedly tried to commit suicide earlier as well.

According to his family, he had tried committing suicide by consuming sleeping pills on 10 April, after which he was also admitted to Safdarjung and then counseled.

The family members have also told the police that the boy, who joined IIT two months ago, never mentioned child abuse or seemed depressed back home in Kolkata.

His suicide note has been sent for forensic analysis.
