Residents in Delhi-NCR woke up to a thick cover of smog on the morning of 7 November, with several parts of the capital region reporting lowest visibility this season yet. Some thought it was the winter setting in, that is until one looked at the alarming pollution levels. The average air quality was 403 as per AQI, which lies in the ‘very poor’ category.

While several residents took to Twitter to post images of the low visibility due to the smog cover, journalists shared startling statistics about air quality.

#Smog was the top trend on Twitter for most of the morning, with poor air quality levels being recorded in parts of Punjab too. Some Twitter users went on to compare the smog in India to the air quality in Beijing.
