Nirbhaya's parents have approached Patiala House Court on Thursday, 14 February, seeking to expedite the procedure to hang the convicts in the 2012 gang-rape case. The hearing of the plea will be held on 2 March.

According to News18, Nirbhaya's counsel said that time to move the mercy plea of convicts was over.

In July 2018, the Supreme Court had confirmed that the four men responsible for the gang-rape of 23-year-old paramedic student in Delhi, would be hanged to death, as reported by NDTV. The convicts also pleaded that they be given life sentence, but the petition was turned down by the apex court.

One of the convicts had hanged himself in his cell and another convict, a juvenile, was given a three-year imprisonment in a reform facility.
