In a fresh salvo against Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the DDCA irregularities issue, AAP leaders purportedly released a letter dated October 27, 2011, which they claim shows that Jaitley was aware of the irregularities in cricket body.

The AAP accused Jaitley of misusing his position and political clout as the then leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha to scuttle the Delhi Police investigations.

Highlights of AAP’s accusations:

  • The BJP and Arun Jaitley, till today, are trying to hide their heads and are in denial mode.
  • Arun Jaitley had said he will only answer specific questions. But he hasn’t answered the nine questions asked by us.
  • We have documents to prove that Arun Jaitley was in the know-how of everything in the DDCA for 15 years and as Bishen Bedi said not a single leaf would move without Jaitley’s knowledge.
  • We have a letter dated October 27, 2011, by Arun Jaitley to then Police Commissioner BK Gupta showing Jaitley was aware of DDCA irregularities.
  • At the peak of Anna’s anti-corruption campaign, Jaitley as leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and DDCA chief wrote to Commissioner asking him to “ensure the matter is dealt with fairly and close it since the DDCA has done no wrong.”
  • Jaitley insisted there was no wrong doing by the DDCA.
  • Who is Jaitley to tell Delhi Police complaints were unsubstantiated? Is this not a criminal offence?
Letter that AAP alleges was  written by Arun Jaitley to then Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta.

After showing the letter Ashutosh used the forum to ask Jaitley the following questions:

  • 1. Is it not a fact that you misused your position as leader of opposition to pressurise Delhi Police?
  • 2. Being an eminent lawyer yourself, do you deny that your actions were not an interference in an investigation?
  • 3. On what basis did you conclude that complaints regarding Syndicate Bank were unsubstantiated?
  • 4. Given your political clout in the central government is it fair that you continue as a minister particularly because Delhi Police reports to the Centre?
  • 5. What was your interest in attempting to derail the investigations and did you reveal it at DDCA’s next AGM?
