Dawood Ibrahim’s health deteriorated on 28 April. The alleged mastermind of the 1993 Bombay blasts he suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a hospital in Karachi, according to CNN-News18, citing reports and sources.

According to the report, Indian intelligence sources believe that news of Dawood’s health is being kept under wraps by the Pakistani authorities who have no plans to make an official announcement in case he dies.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistan media reports claimed that Dawood was admitted in critical condition at Karachi's Aga Khan Hospital. However, a report published in Hindustan Times claims that Dawood is ‘unwell but his health is not critical’.

‘Dawood Ibrahim Unwell but Not Critical’

Citing sources, Hindustan Times has backed reports of Dawood being unwell but claims the don’s health is not “critical”. The daily quotes sources as saying that Dawood – who has been suffering from gangrene of limbs – has been in and out of hospitals for a while and was last seen enjoying a party at former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad’s house on 19 April.

“Bhai is Fit and Fine”, Says Close Aide Chota Shakeel

Dawood’s close aide Chota Shakeel has quashed all rumours of his ill-health, The Times of India and India Today reported.

Listening to my voice, do you think any such thing has happened? These are all rumours... Bhai is fit and fine.

Dawood’s Family Dismiss Reports

The India Today report also rubbished another report which said that Ibrahim had got a paralysis attack, following which he underwent a surgery for the removal of a brain tumour which eventually failed.

The India Today report cited sources within Dawood’s family who said he was well and that he had called to check up on the well being of his wife Mehjabeen's uncle Salim, who is currently hospitalised.

Dawood Ibrahim is wanted in India for the 1993 Mumbai blasts that led to the deaths of over 250 people. Indian intelligence agencies claim the criminal mastermind currently operates his underworld empire from within Pakistan, a claim that has been opposed by Pakistan.

The Quint has not been able to independently verify the reports.
