1. Cop Stabbed by Drunk Men, Three arrested

A Delhi Police sub-inspector was stabbed by three men for protesting against throwing of water balloons during Holi celebrations at Rajouri Garden on Thursday. The three men were arrested from the spot.

Sub-inspector Amit Kumar Nara, posted with the Nihal Vihar police station, was off duty and was looking for an eatery to order food for his relatives when the youths threw balloons at his car.

When he protested, the accused stabbed him. Police said that a case of attempt to murder has been registered against the men. The SI was admitted to a hospital where he is said to be out of danger following a surgery.

2. Journalist Among Two Arrested for ‘Extortion’

A former journalist with an English daily, who was named in a sexual harassment case last month, was arrested by Gurugram Police on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 4 crore from the owner of a guesthouse in Gurugram. A woman has also been arrested, while a third accused is on the run, said police.

According to an FIR registered on the basis of the hotel owner’s complaint, the woman, Neelam Singh (52) checked into the establishment on 3 February and booked a room until 28 February.

On 23 February, however, she left claiming she had some work, and returned only on 9 March.

3. 4-Year-Old Accident a Contract Killing: Cops

The city crime branch has solved a four-year-old contract killing case which was closed assuming it to be a road accident.

An accused, tanker driver Amol Pasoba (36), under the influence of alcohol spilled the beans, complaining to friends that his boss, tanker owner Saijuddin Qureshi, cheated him by paying only Rs 10,000, instead of the Rs 40,000 promised.

“We got a tip-off that Amol had killed Iqlaq Khan (42), who used to sell bakery products on his bicycle. Crime branch (unit III) officers had found that Khan had met with a road accident. But they dug further and unearthed the murder conspiracy,” said deputy commissioner of police (crime) Dilip Sawant.

4. Mob Goes on Rampage in Gurugram House on Holi

On Thursday, as the country celebrated Holi, a group of around 20 men arrived at the two-storey house of Mohammad Dilshad (32) in Bhoop Singh Nagar of Bhondsi, armed with sticks, a spear and hockey sticks.

The police complaint filed later by Dilshad states they began by pelting stones at the house and vandalising the three motorbikes standing outside. When they stormed in, the men of the house sent the women and children to the second floor terrace.

From there, one of the girls, Danishta (21), shot the video of the assault that has now gone viral on social media, showing the attackers beating the men and an elderly woman mercilessly, while the girls and boys pressed against the iron door of the terrace to prevent it from being pushed open, trembling with fear and crying out for help.

5. Cabbie in Debt, Wife & 2 Aides Held for Matunga Moneylender’s Murder

Two days after an elderly woman was found strangled in her Matunga residence, four people were arrested on Friday in connection with the murder. The four include a couple who had availed of a loan from the senior citizen, the police said.

Vasanta Laxminarayan (79), who lived alone in her one-bedroom-hall-kitchen house in Milind Nagar locality, was found strangled with a dupatta on Wednesday. A few gold ornaments were missing from her house. Vasanta was a moneylender, the police said.

A taxi driver, Akbar Amir Shaikh (35), his wife Sameera (34) and two of their accomplices – Mohammed Ali Patari (25) and Mohammed Haq (29) – have been arrested.

6. Duo Held in Bihar for Rs 1.7 Cr Gold Theft from Borivli Unit

The Charkop police on Friday arrested two brothers for stealing 6.2 kg of gold worth Rs 1.7 crore from a jewellery manufacturing unit in Borivli (West).

After committing the crime on the night of 23 January, the mastermind, Sharif Shaikh (19), employed with the unit, MJ Jewellers, along with his brother Arif (18), broke a CCTV camera and set the premises on fire to destroy evidence.

The entire act was captured on a CCTV camera they had failed to spot. The police said 10 staffers who were sleeping at the unit had a lucky escape from the fire.

7. Bizman Robbed of Rs 1.5 Crore

Armed men allegedly waylaid a businessman near Pitampura around 7 pm on Friday and snatched a bag containing Rs 1.5 crore. The victim, Vinod Garg, and his son, Varun, were returning home from their shop in Sadar Bazaar when the incident took place.

Three men on a bike overtook their vehicle and forced them to stop. One of them held Garg at gunpoint, while the others opened the rear door and took the cash bag.

They then forced them to step out of the car and drove away. The men dumped the car a kilometre away from the spot.

8. Haryana Cop Killed in Hit-And-Run at Singhu Border

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Haryana traffic police was killed when an allegedly speeding car rammed his car on Thursday evening at the Singhu border in Sonepat.

The assistant sub-inspector has been identified as Jaiveer Singh, 50, a resident of Panipat district in Haryana.

Police said Singh was on traffic duty at Kundli Chowk near the Delhi-Sonepat border on Thursday on Holi.

9. Husband a Suspect in Holi Murder

A 40-year-old woman was murdered in her house in Jahangirpuri while her son had gone to fetch colours for Holi on Thursday afternoon. The 11-year-old returned a few minutes later from the market to find his mother lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit.

Police suspect the role of a spurned lover or the woman’s estranged husband in the murder. Police said that the woman, Anmol, was staying with her son at a rented house in Jahangirpuri’s B-block for the past few months. Her other children stayed with her husband a few kilometres away.

A case has been registered. The role of her husband is being probed since he has been absconding since the incident.
