Cricketer Jasprit Bumrah’s Missing Grandfather Found Dead

The family said it was Santok Singh’s last wish to meet his grandson, Jasprit and bless him.

Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah's septuagenarian grandfather Santok Singh –reported missing for two days – was found dead in Ahmedabad on Sunday, 10 December. Ahmedabad police found the body near Dadhichi bridge on the Sabarati riverfront.

Santok Singh, aged 75, was missing after he travelled to Ahmedabad from Uttarakhand to meet his cricketer grandson. He used to drive an auto-rickshaw to earn a living in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand.

Singh lived in abject poverty after his successful business incurred losses forcing him to sell off his property. He hadn’t met his grandson since the death of his son, after a fallout with his daughter-in-law, Hindustan Times reported. Four years ago when Singh learnt that his grandson had becomes a successful cricket, he yearned to see him, Bumrah’s uncle Jaswinder told HT.

The family said it was his last wish to meet Jasprit and bless him.

A local TV channel said Santok Singh had claimed that Jasprit was not home when he went to meet him and that the cricketer's mother did not let him meet Jasprit later on. He was missing ever since.
