The number of coronavirus cases in India rose by 27,114 to cross the eight lakh mark on Saturday, 11 July, in the biggest one-day spike. The death toll increased by 519 to 22,123.

According to the Union Health Ministry’s data, there are now 2,83,407 active cases in the country, while 5,15,386 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated.

Earlier, the drug controller of India, cleared Itolizumab, a drug used to cure skin ailment psoriasis, for “restricted emergency use” to treat COVID-19 patients, officials told PTI.

Itolizumab Allowed For 'Restricted' COVID Treatment

Itolizumab, used to cure skin ailment psoriasis, has been approved by drug regulator for ‘restricted use’ to treat COVID-19 patients, reported PTI.

The approval comes after the clinical trials were found satisfactory by the expert committee, comprising pulmonologists, pharmacologists and medicine experts from AIIMS, the news agency quoted the official as saying.

Goa CM Rules Out Possibility of a Lockdown in the State

1,403 Cases Reported in Uttar Pradesh

1,403 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state stand at 11,490, reported ANI quoting State Principal Health Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad.

Total Recoveries Cross 5-Lakh Mark

Total recovered cases among COVID-19 patients crossed the 5 lakh mark today, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. At least 5,15,385 COVID-19 patients have so far been cured. The recovery rate has further improved to 62.78%, the ministry said.

1,813 COVID-19 Cases in Andhra Pradesh

At least 1,813 COVID-19 cases, were reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in the state is now at 27,235, including 12,533 active cases, 14,393 discharged and 309 deaths.

Rapid Antigen Tests to be Conducted for Air Passengers to Assam

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Rapid antigen tests will be done for incoming air passengers to the state.

“Rapid antigen tests will be done for incoming air passengers and they will be quarantined based on the results,” he said, as quoted by ANI.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has tested negative for COVID-19, ANI reported quoting the CM’s office.

11 New Cases in Dharavi

At least 11 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Dharavi area of Mumbai today. Total number of cases in the area is now at 2370, including 122 active cases and 2002 discharges: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)

There Might Be Issues of Trust Between Nations in Post-COVID World: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that countries might behave more ‘nationalistically’ in a post-COVID world and there might be trust issues between nations.

“A lot of trends that we saw before coronavirus, they could accelerate in the post-COVID world. Even in response, in six months, for example, we have seen a lot of countries behaving more nationalistically,” he said, as quoted by ANI.

“I see a world where arguments will sharpen. I think there will be issues of trust which has been raised. There will be questions on resilient supply chains. It is going to be a more difficult world,” he added.

1,781 New Cases in Delhi

At least 1,781 COVID-19 cases were reported in Delhi today. Total number of cases in the national capital is now at 1,10,921, including 87,692 recovered/discharged/migrated, 19,895 active cases and 3,334 deaths.

Lockdown Shillong for Two Days

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has declared a total lockdown in Shillong for two days.

“Government has decided to observe the next two working days, on 13 and 14 July as total lockdown in Shillong City agglomeration. During this time, Shillong city and surrounding areas shall be under curfew till 6 AM of the 15th of July,” he said, s quoted by ANI.

872 New COVID Cases in Gujarat

At least 872 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths reported in Gujarat in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state is now at 41,027, including 28,685 cured/discharged and 2,034 deaths, ANI reported quoting the State Health Department.

Complete Lockdown in Bengaluru from 14-22 July

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced a complete lockdown in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts from 8 pm on 14 July to 5 am on 22 July. Essential services will be open and available in this period, a release by the Chief Minister's Office confirmed.

1,403 New Cases in UP

Uttar Pradesh reported 1,403 new COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total number of cases to 35,092 including 22,689 recoveries and 913 deaths. Number of active cases stands at 11,490, ANI reported quoting the State Health Department.
