The number of coronavirus cases in India surged to 52,952 on Thursday, 7 May. According to the Health Ministry data, there are now 35,902 active COVID-19 cases in the country, while 1,783 people have died. As many as 15,266 patients have been cured or discharged and one has migrated. In the last 24 hours, there have been 3,561 new cases and 89 deaths.

India is currently under the third phase of lockdown to contain the spread of the virus, with some relaxations being granted to areas falling under green and orange zones, while most restrictions continue in the red zones.

Addressing a Buddh Purnima event virtually amid the coronavirus lockdown on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that people working selflessly for others in these difficult times are worthy of praise.

  • Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 16,758, followed by Gujarat at 6,625
  • The tally of COVID-19 cases in national capital Delhi has climbed to 5,532, with the death toll at 65

'Coronavirus Crisis Worse Than Pearl Harbor, 9/11': Trump

First Train for Migrant Workers to Leave from Delhi for MP Today

The first special train for migrant workers will leave from Delhi for Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. Around 1,200 migrant workers of MP staying in shelters homes in the national capital will be travelling in the train, reported ANI.

'People Working Selflessly in These Difficult Times Worthy of Praise': PM Modi

Addressing a Buddh Purnima event virtually amid the coronavirus lockdown on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that people working selflessly for others in these difficult times are worthy of praise.

"I extend my wishes to all on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Today, the situation is such that I can't participate in Buddha Purnima programs physically. It would have been my pleasure to be with you all in the celebrations, but circumstances prevailing today do not permit us," Modi said.

“During this difficult time of the coronavirus lockdown, there are several people around us who are working 24 hours to help others, to maintain law and order, to cure infected persons and to maintain cleanliness, by sacrificing their own comforts. All such people deserve appreciation and honour," he added.

He asserted that India is standing selflessly in these difficult times with those facing trouble in the country or abroad.

“Today, India is standing firmly in support of everyone, without any discrimination, who are in need or who are in trouble, in the country or across the globe. India is constantly working to help other countries across the globe and will continue to do the same... All of us have to fight together to defeat coronavirus.”

Doubling Rate of COVID-19 in Delhi 11 Days

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said that the doubling rate of COVID-19 in Delhi stands at 11 days.

38 New COVID-19 Cases, 2 Deaths in Rajasthan

As many as 38 new coronavirus cases and two deaths were reported in Rajasthan on Thursday, taking the tally in the state to 3,355 and the death toll to 95.

56 New COVID-19 Cases, 2 Deaths in Andhra Pradesh

As many as 56 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths have been reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 1,833, including 780 discharged patients and 38 deaths.

8 New COVID-19 Cases in Karnataka; Tally Rises to 701

Eight new COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka from 5 pm on Wednesday to 12 pm on Thursday, taking the tally in the state to 701, including 30 deaths and 363 cured or discharged patients.

Protests in Tamil Nadu Against Opening of Liquor Shops

Protests took place in Tamil Nadu's Madurai, Chennai, Trichy and other districts on Thursday against the opening of liquor shops in the state.

DMK Chief MK Stalin also held a protest against the state government's decision to allow opening of liquor shops from Thursday.

Travelling Between Rajkot and Ahmedabad Banned

Travelling between Rjkot and Ahmedabad has been banned by the administration.

“We have put a ban on traveling between Rajkot to Ahmadabad and vice versa due to COVID-19. No vehicle will be allowed to travel between these two cities except ambulances and medical van,” Rajkot Collector Remya Mohan told ANI.

Cases to Peak in June-July: AIIMS Director

Randeep Guleria, AIIMS Director said that the way the figures are rising, the cases might peak in June and July.

“According to modeling data and the way our cases are increasing, it is likely that peak can come in June and July. But there are many variablesa and with time only we will know how much they are effective and the effect of extending the lockdown” he said.

10 New Cases in Noida

At least 10 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Gautam Buddha Nagar today. Total number of cases in the district is now at 202, including 93 active cases.

Summer Vacation in Govt Schools and Colleges Declared in Punjab

Punjab Government has decided to declare summer vacation in government colleges and universities of the state from 115 May to 15 June.

Ahmedabad Pharmaceuticals Plant Closed After 26 Employees Test Positive

CISF Personnel Succumbs to Virus

A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable posted at Mumbai airport, who had tested positive for COVID-19, passed away today, the CISF said in a statement.

Cases in UP Cross 3,000

Number of COVID-19 cases reaches 3,071 in Uttar Pradesh, with 73 new cases being reported today. Number of recovered/discharged patients and deaths stands at 1,250 and 62, respectively. Ghazipur district is now free of COVID-19.

5 New Cases in Jharkhand

At least five more COVID-19 cases reported in Jharkhand today, all from Palamu district. They had returned from Chhatisgarh, the total number of positive cases in the state is now at 132.

At least 37 Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel posted in Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of infected personnel in ITBP is now at 90.

92 New Cases in West Bengal

At least 92 new COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed today in West Bengal, taking the total number of positive case to 1,548. Total deaths due to COVID-19 stand at 79 and total active cases is at 1,101.

Delhi Cop Tests COVID-19 Positive

An Inspector, posted at Delhi Police Special Cell's office in Lodhi Colony has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the second coronavirus case in the Special Cell.

72 Inmates From Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail Test Positive

At least 72 inmates and seven staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai's Arthur Road prison. All positive inmates will be shifted to GT Hospital and St George Hospital in guarded vehicles tomorrow morning while staff members will be shifted separately.

Cases in Maharashtra Cross 18,000

At least 1,362 COVID-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra today. The total number of cases in the state is now at 18,120.

PM Modi Discusses Pandemic With European Council President

PM Narendra Modi had a phone call today with Charles Michel, President of the European Council. Two leaders discussed the situation of and responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in India and the European Union.

“They appreciated mutual cooperation extended in face of the pandemic,including for ensuring supplies of essential pharmaceutical products. The leaders recognized the importance of regional and global coordination to effectively address the health and economic impact of COVID-19,” the ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

15 New Cases in Telangana

At least 15 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Telangana today. Total positive cases in the state is at 1,122 including 400 active cases and 29 deaths.

448 New Cases in Delhi

At least 448 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Delhi today; taking the total number of positive cases to 5,980. One death has been reported today, death toll rises to 66.
