The number of coronavirus cases in India jumped by 6,767 cases to 1,31,868 on Sunday, 24 May, while the death toll rose by 147 to 3,867. According to Health Ministry data, there are now 73,560 active cases across the country, while 54,440 patients have been cured or discharged and one has migrated.
3,041 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Maharashtra today, taking the total number of positive cases in the state past 50,000. This is also the most number of cases reported in one day. West Bengal reported 208 new COVID-19 confirmed cases and three deaths on Sunday, which is the highest number of cases reported in the state in one day.
A 25-year-old man tested positive for coronavirus in Sikkim on Saturday, 23 May. This is the first case of COVID-19 recorded in the state during the pandemic.

US Records Nearly 1,00,000 Cases
The United States recorded 1,260 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing its total to 95,921, news agency AFP reported on Saturday, citing the Johns Hopkins University tally. The country has over 1.6 million coronavirus cases.
Sikkim Records First COVID-19 Case

Guidelines Issued For International Arrivals
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued guidelines for international arrivals – making 14-day quarantine mandatory. The guidelines said that the passengers will have to undergo seven days institutional quarantine at own cost, followed by seven days of home isolation.
Can't Say If Lockdown Will Be Over by 31 May: Uddhav Thackeray
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that his government cannot say whether the lockdown will be over by 31 May.
“We will have to see how we will go forward. The coming time is crucial as multiplication of virus is picking up. I want to assure the medical fraternity that we are with them in all ways,” he said.
Delhi Records 508 New Cases
The total number of positive cases in the national capital is now 13,418 with 508 new cases, said the Delhi Health Department.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that the lockdown had been imposed in India at the right time.
“Other developed countries wasted many days to take this decision. In some countries when situation went out of control they took the decision of lockdown and in most places it was partial lockdown,” he said, according to ANI.
Hotels to Reopen With Conditions: K'taka Tourism Minister
Karnataka Tourism Minister C T Ravi on Sunday said that since domestic flights will resume operations from 26 May, this will generate requirement for hotels for travellers to stay at.
“Hence hotels should reopen with some conditions. We've also planned to begin tourism industry step by step,” he said, according to ANI.
130 New Cases in Karnataka in Last 24 Hours
130 new positive cases have been reported in Karnataka from 5 pm on Saturday till 5pm on Sunday, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 2089, including 1391 active cases and 654 discharges, ANI reports, quoting the Karnataka Health Department.
Containment Zones Barricaded, No Relaxations Given: Delhi Health Minister
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday said that the Delhi government has barricaded the containment zones and no relaxation has been given in these areas.
"Whatever containment zones are there, we are barricading it and no relaxation from the government has been given in these zones," the minister said.
765 New Cases, 8 Deaths Reported in Tamil Nadu Today

Four Vaccine Candidates May Enter Clinical Trial Stage Within 4-5 Months: Dr Harsh Vardhan
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that at least four of the 14 candidate vaccines for COVID-19 in India may enter the clinical trial stage very soon, according to IANS.
"As far as I know, approximately four of our fourteen vaccines will soon be in the clinical trial stage, within 4 to 5 months. All the 14 are right now at the pre-clinical trial stage,” Dr Harsh Vardhan said, in an interaction with BJP leader G.V.L. Narasimha Rao.

Tamil Nadu Issues Guidelines for Domestic Flights Entering State
Tamil Nadu has issued guidelines for domestic flights entering the state. These guidelines are applicable in addition to the instructions of Ministry of Civil Aviation regarding all precautionary and preventive measures.
Among other requirements, all domestic air travellers coming into Tamil Nadu shall register themselves in TNePass portal and (if asymptomatic) shall undergo 14 day home quarantine.
West Bengal Reports Biggest Single Day Spike With 208 Cases
West Bengal reported 208 new COVID-19 confirmed cases and three deaths on Sunday, which is the highest number of cases reported in one day.
The total number of positive cases in the state has now risen to 3,667, including 2,203 active cases and 203 deaths, ANI reports, quoting the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal.
