COVID-19: Over 70,000 Cases in Maharashtra; Biggest Spike in TN

The number of COVID-19 cases crossed the 70,000-mark in Maharashtra on Monday, 1 June, with 2,361 new cases reported. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded the highest single-day spike of 1,162 new coronavirus cases, while Delhi's tally crossed the 20,000-mark.
After four phases of lockdown over more than two months, Monday marked the first day of 'Unlock 1' wherein significant relaxations are being implemented across the country in a phased manner.
Earlier on Monday, the Health Ministry data showed that India had recorded over 1.9 lakh COVID-19 cases, with 8,392 new cases recorded in 24 hours. The number of active cases stood at 93,322, while as many as 91,818 people were cured or discharged. A total 5,394 deaths have been reported so far.

Highest Single-Day Spike of 1,162 COVID-19 Cases in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu on Monday recorded the highest single-day spike of 1,162 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the state to 23,495. The death toll in the state rose to 184, with 11 more deaths reported on Monday.
Meanwhile, Kerala reported 57 new cases on Monday, taking the tally in the state to 1,326, including 708 active cases.
Two CBI Officials Test Positive for COVID-19
Two CBI officials have tested positive for COVID-19 and are in quarantine as per protocol, the investigation agency said on Monday, reported ANI.
990 New COVID-19 Cases Take Delhi's Tally to Over 20,000
Delhi on Monday reported 990 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the national capital to 20,834. Twelve new casualties took the death toll in the city to 523.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra spiked by 2,361 to 70,013 on Monday, with the death toll rising by 76 to 2,362.
187 New COVID-19 Cases in Karnataka, Tally Rises to 3,408
Karnataka has reported 187 new COVID-19 cases from 5 pm on Sunday to 5 pm on Monday, taking the tally in the state to 3,408, including 2,026 active cases and 52 deaths.
Highest Single-Day Spike in Odisha, Tally Rises to 2,104
The highest single-day spike of 156 cases was recorded in Odisha on Monday, taking the tally in the state to 2,104. The state currently has 969 active cases.
COVID-19 Tally in Indore District Rises to 3,539
The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district rose to 3,539, with 53 new cases on Monday. The death toll rose to 135 with three more deaths, PTI quoted a health department official as saying.
DGCA on Middle Seats in Flights
"Airlines to allot seats in such a manner that middle seats in flights are kept vacant to a possible extent," DGCA says as per PTI.
It also said, "If a passenger is allocated middle seat on the flight, 'wrap-around gown' should be provided to him or her in addition to face mask, shield."
NITI Aayog Official Tests Positive for COVID-19
A NITI Aayog official tests positive for COVID-19, ANI reports. Third floor of their office in Delhi is sealed and sanitisation is underway, as per the report.
ICMR Scientist Tests Positive
One of the scientists at the Indian Council of Medical Research has tested positive for coronavirus, IANS cited a source.
After this the ICMR headquarter has been closed for fumigation and sanitisation, as per the report.
Kejriwal on Unlock 1.0
"Apart from whatever was allowed till now, barbershops and salons will be opened but spas will remain closed", says Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal as per ANI.
"We were following odd-even rule for shops in markets but the central government has not stated any such rule, so all shops can open now," he adds.

India Records 1,90,535 Cases
On Monday, 1 June, India records 1,90,535 total COVID-19 cases. Out of the total cases, 93,322 are active and 91,818 have recovered as per Union Health Ministry data.
5,394 deaths have been reported so far.
