Gangrape Complainant Comes Forward, Murthal Police Registers FIR 

Haryana cops finally register an FIR in the Murthal sexual violence case after gangrape complainant comes forth.

In a turn of events, the Murthal Police has finally registered an FIR against seven people including the complainant’s own brother-in-law, after the victim came forth and claimed she had been gangraped. A Delhi woman alleges that seven men, gangraped her on the intervening night of 22-23 February. The victim called up the SIT helpline to register her complaint. 

Earlier today, truck drivers had appeared on various TV channels stating that they saw women being pulled out of cars and being molested and raped during the pro-quota Jat agitation at Murthal in Sonipat district. But the Haryana police insisted that three truck drivers interrogated by the them denied any such claims.

A team of three women police officers, DIG Rajshree Singh, DSP Bharti Dabas and DSP Surinder Kaur was formed by the Haryana government to gather information concerning the alleged incidents of sexual assault near Murthal on the intervening night of 22 and 23 February. DIG Singh said instructions had been issued that as soon as any complainant comes forward, an FIR must be registered.

Yesterday, women police officers visited Hassanpur village near Murthal in Sonipat district on Delhi-Ambala National Highway to gather first hand information about the alleged incidents. Meanwhile, Sonepat SP Abhishek Garg said three witnesses to the incident as reported by a section of media were also “verified at various levels” and they had said that no incident of sexual assault or rape took place.
