A police constable and a gangster were killed in a gunfight in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district on Sunday evening, reported The Indian Express.

Harsh Chaudhary, 25, was killed in the incident, which occurred at the Bachhrawan police station area.

Chaudhary, along with another constable, were at the Inderpur village to find gangster Shiv Avtar alias Sibia, Amroha Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada said. The constables were part of a drive to check criminals, according to The Indian Express.

Gangster Shiv Avtar has 19 cases against him, including those registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Arms Act, and theft and attempt to murder cases.

The gangster opened fire on the police constables after he spotted them. In the ensuing gunfight, Chaudhary and Shiv Avtar were injured, the SP said

Additional forces were at the spot, which is about 4 km from the Bachhrawan police station. Chaudhary, who suffered a bullet injury to his chest, succumbed to the injuries after he was admitted to the hospital.

The police recovered a country made weapon from Shiv Avtar, who was admitted to the hospital along with Chaudhary.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 40 lakh for the wife of the constable and Rs 10 lakh for his parents, according to a government spokesperson. The government will also provide ‘extraordinary pension’ to Chaudhary’s wife and a government job to one dependent of his family.
