One day after Bhopal mayor Alok Sharma announced the construction of a cow crematorium, the state Congress party retaliated by claiming the BJP was trying to capitalise on an emotive issue before the Lok Sabha polls, reported The Times of India.

“The BJP has very little to do with cow protection of Ram Temple construction. These issues have been repeatedly used to get votes and retain political power.
State Congress media committee chairperson Shobha Oza was quoted as saying

On Thursday, 17 January, mayor Alok Sharma had said that a “Gau Mukti Dham would be constructed for cows that die unnatural or untimely deaths. In response, Oza claimed that this was yet another attempt by the BJP of using “cows, caste and religion for electoral benefit”.

She further claimed that the idea for the dedicated cow crematorium had come after the Congress party had included plans to construct a cow shelter in every village panchayat.

She claimed that when the BJP was in power, a private member bill introduced by a Congress MLA demanding peaceful cremation of cows had not got any response from the ruling party legislators. Oza also said that the issues of cows, Ram Temple etc were raised when the BJP had nothing else to discuss.

She also alleged that local BJP leaders had tried to cover up the matter of cows being buried within the Rewa Municipal Corporation premises earlier this year, according to the report.
