Three Lashkar-e-Taiba’s terrorists were killed in an encounter in Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday. Kashmir’s LeT Chief Abu Dujana was reportedly one of those who were killed by the security forces.

While Times Now reported that Dujana was killed in the encounter, India Today stated that Dujana had escaped on Wednesday night. Combing operations are currently underway.

Police, Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) participated in the encounter in Hussanpora Khudwani village, the Daily Excelsior report claimed.

The report also claimed that 3-4 militants, including Dujana and Abdul Majeed Gania, were in the house under fire.

Twitter Goes Berserk With Unconfirmed Reports

While there is no confirmation about either the encounter or the entrapment of Dujana, another news that broke over Twitter was that Dujana was killed in the encounter.

After Wani’s death in July, 26/11 convict and LeT leader Hafiz Saeed had claimed that Wani’s funeral was lead by Dujana, referred to as “Ameer”. The alleged link between the two sparked a Twitter trend of people praising the Indian Army for killing both men with separatist agenda.

Who is Abu Dujana?

Before being linked to Wani, LeT’s India handler Dujana was suspected to have helped Saeed’s son-in-law Khalid Waleed and two others mount an attack on a CRPF convoy in Pampore in June.

Dujana was last seen in Kashmir’s Pulwama region among the crowd protesting against Burhan Wani’s killing on 8 July, reports NDTV. Although police had denied his presence in the country, alleged pictures of Dujana had made the rounds of social media.

The following picture of a man in pink striped short was shared claiming Dujana’s citing in Pulwama.

Dujana also carried a message from Wani to Saeed, as reported by The Times of India, after a phone call which was released by CNN News18.

In the phone call, the contents of which remain unconfirmed, alleged voices of Wani and Saeed are heard bonding over working against “the common enemy”.
