On 16 February, The Quint, in association with BitGiving, started a crowdfunding campaign to #HelpChhutki, an 8-month-old rape survivor in Delhi. We started with an initial target amount of Rs 5 lakh for the infant, who we are calling Chhutki – an amount that was reached and exceeded on 21 February 2018. This target amount was the minimum we’d hoped to raise for her.

Thank you for making this possible and for supporting Chhutki with such vigour and courage.

The Quint now seeks to raise more money for Chhutki, raising the target to Rs 15 lakh, to help her and her family cope with extensive medical treatments and the court battle ahead.

The 8-month-old’s 28-year-old cousin allegedly raped her on 28 January 2018 while her parents were away. They had left their baby in the care of relatives, but the mother returned to find Chhutki raped and abandoned in a pool of blood.

Chhutki, since then, has undergone three surgeries and needs more medical treatment to heal completely. Her father is a daily wage labourer who, on a good day, makes about Rs 300 a day, while her mother is a domestic help in houses nearby. Both of them have stopped going to work to take care of their baby. They also have another daughter who is two years old. The family, who is not well-off and has a long battle ahead of them, needs your help.
