Walk over to a playground in the evening in Chennai and amidst shouts and quarrels over batting next or being bowled out, you can hear excited chatter about yellow jerseys and the return of the lions – yes, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are back in IPL after a dry-spell of two years and Chennaiites cannot contain their excitement.

Cricket fans cannot get enough of their ‘whistle podu’ anthem and their ‘thala’ Dhoni. The internet has been bombarded with several tribute videos of the CSK madness, but the 'CSK Anthem 2.0’ is clearly a favourite.

The song is sung by Tamil film actor Premgi Amaren, son of famous yesteryear composer Gangai Amaren and nephew of legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja.

Premgi's connect with cricket and with Chennai is undisputed. He's a huge fan, and his biggest hit till date is Chennai-28, where he plays gully cricket for his underdog team. He's a comedian, who's serious about his cricket and his biryani, in that order.

From ‘Kabali’ dialogues to folksy beats to 'whistle-podu', this one has it all.

The song portrays a cricket fan who meets with an accident, and how the love to see his icon Dhoni gives him the motivation to walk and be able to make it for the match. Composed by Abhijith Ramaswami, the song has a catchy tune and has used a number of chorus slogans to capture the mob craze. He has even used the sound of fans cheering, with claps and bottles, in the background.

The song has been written and directed by Aswin Kandasamy, a hardcore cricket fan.
