1. Madras HC Reserves Order on Bigil’s Release in TN
The Madras high court has reserved orders on a application, which sought to stay the release of Tamil film ‘Bigil’, starring popular film star Vijay. The film is scheduled to be released on 25 October.
Justice R Suresh Kumar reserved orders, after hearing arguments from both sides on the application filed by K P Selvah, claiming to be a film director. Claiming copy right over the story ‘Bigil’, Selvah in his application submitted that the story of ‘Bigil’ resembles his script, which he had already registered with the South Indian Film Writers Association. For many years, he has been discussing the story with many producers.

2. Chennai Becomes First in India to Get an Intelligent Flood Warning System
Tamil Nadu is all set to deploy an ‘intelligent flood warning system’ in Chennai, which will enable officials to get area-wise inundation details during the monsoon. The technology, called CFLOWS, is India’s first integrated coastal flood warning system.
It was conceptualised by the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Union Government, after the devastating 2015 Chennai floods. The system is being considered a game-changer, not just for Chennai, but also for other coastal cities such as Mumbai where urban flooding has become the norm.

3. For Bid to Intimidate Witnesses in Court, 27 Chennai Students Jailed
In a bizarre court-room drama, 27 college students in Chennai were arrested and sent to jail Tuesday for allegedly trying to intimidate witnesses in a murder trial — by staring at them. According to police, the students were trying to help their classmate who is a cousin of two men accused in the murder last year of a brick kiln owner in Tiruvallur, about 50 km north of Chennai city.
“All of them were mobilised by the accused in the court hall during the trial. They were trying to intimidate witnesses. They had come from different places outside Tiruvallur. The police were alerted by one of the witnesses and we secured them from the court itself,” said P Aravindan, SP Tiruvallur.

4. Walk for Freedom 2019: Chennai Gears up to Raise Awareness Against Human Trafficking
In an effort to raise awareness against human trafficking and modern-day slavery, Chennai and nine other Indian cities will join the global discourse as part of the ‘Walk for Freedom’ event on 19 October. The event, which is will take place simultaneously in 450 locations across 50 countries, will see participants taking a pledge to end human trafficking.
Over 5,000 participants have already signed up across 10 Indian cities – Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, Shilong, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Panjim. The walk will see participants holding placards about the harsh reality of slavery.

5. Plea to Lower NEET Marks
The Madras High Court has ordered notice to the Union and state governments on a petition, which sought a direction to them for lowering the eligibility marks prescribed for admission to Indian Medicine UG Courses viz, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS for the academic session 2019-2020, besides to extend the cut off date of admission for the academic session 2019-2020.
The petitioner was given to understand that totally 394 seats were available under the management quota in the state of Tamil Nadu for the Indian Medicine courses. 555 students have applied under the management quota. Out of which only 116 students got allotment order.
