Change.org Petition Demands Reversal of RK Pachauri’s Appointment

A petition by ex-TERI employees and alumni demands that his appointment as Executive VC be reversed.

Dr RK Pachauri’s recent promotion to the position of Executive Vice-Chancellor has been controversial because of the ongoing sexual harassment case against him. Pachauri has been charged under IPC sections 354, 354(a), 354(d) (molestation) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

His promotion has been met with anguish by the complainant. In an open letter, she wrote: The news of promotion of a man who stands booked on charges of sexual harassment at workplace, stalking and criminal intimidation by country’s who’s who makes my flesh crawl.

A petition has been started on Change.org by ex-TERI employees and alumni, demanding that the decision to appoint him Executive VC be reversed.​

The intent of this statement is not to term any person(s) involved as “accused” or “victim” and disrespecting the powers of the Court. However, appointment (and promotion!) of any “accused” person to one of the senior most positions of the same organization where the alleged crime occurred is morally wrong, counterproductive and a mockery of the judiciary. Therefore, any appointment of Dr RK Pachauri in TERI should be deferred till the verdict has been delivered by the court.
