An eight-year-old girl’s presence of mind and act of courage saved the life of her little brother from a raging cow. And the crucial moment has been captured in a CCTV footage.

The video, captured in a village in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, shows a young girl Arati playing with her 4-year-old brother who was riding a tricycle outside their home when a cow came raging towards the boy. The father, later, said that the cow was attracted to the little boy’s red t-shirt, reported The Times of India.

Using her presence of mind, the sister tried to push her brother to a corner to move him away from the angry cow. The cow, however, kept charging at the siblings when Arati decided to turn her back towards the cow while holding onto her brother tightly. When the cow tried to gore her as well, she screamed till a family member stepped out and shooed the animal away.

Putting her own life at risk, Arati saved her brother from being severely injured. Applauding her bravery, Arati’s mother told The Times of India, “This shows that girls are not any less than boys. Initially, we did not understand the gravity of the incident. Only when we watched the CCTV footage did we realise that Arati had fought back and saved the child. Had she not applied her mind, Kartik’s life would have been in danger.

The Times of India report quoted Arati saying, “I had no time to think. At that moment, my only aim was to save my brother. Thank God, he escaped unhurt.”
