Proud Moment! Indian Students Win Global Aerospace Competition
Indian students grab the top position at the Global Aerospace competition CanSat 2017, held in Texas, US.
Students from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Uttarakhand have brought laurels to the country by grabbing the first position at the recently-concluded Global Aerospace competition CanSat held in Texas, US.
Organised by American Astronautical Society (AAS) and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) along with NASA-JPL and Lockheed Martin, CanSat is an annual student design-build-launch competition for space-related topics. The competition brings together university and college teams from around the world. It is designed to reflect the students’ analytical, creative and decision-making skills.
After having grabbed the fourth position at CanSat competition 2016, team Astral from UPES beat 39 teams from across the world to emerge as the winners of CanSat 2017.
Twitter was abuzz with congratulatory messages pouring for the team.
The competition saw participation from many prestigious universities, including University of California, Princeton University, Manchester University and VIT University.
Team Astral achieved this feat under the able mentorship of Dr Ugur Guven and Dr Zozimus Labana.
The team has been participating in the competition since 2013 and includes students of Aerospace Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering and design studies.
