A frenzied mob attacked the police over rumours of illegal cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district.
The soldier allegedly behind the killing of Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh in UP's Bulandshahr has been denied bail by Chief Judicial Magistrate court.
The accused Jitendra Malik, alias Jeetu Fauji, was handed over to the UP Special Task Force (STF) around midnight of 8 December. He later told the media that he is not an absconder, hasn't done anything wrong and that he is being framed.
Meanwhile, the UP government on Saturday, 7 December, transferred Bulandshahr SSP Krishna Bahadur Singh to the DGP office in Lucknow, five days after the inspector and a civilian were killed during mob violence following alleged cow slaughter.
Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar said that the Senior Superintendent of Police will be replaced by Sitapur SP Prabhakar Chaudhary.
Circle Officer (CO) Satya Prakash Sharma and Suresh Kumar, in-charge of Chingravathi police chowki, have also been transferred "for their failure in responding in time to the situation arising on Monday in that area".

‘Inspector Provoked the Crowd’: Accused in Bulandshahr Violence to TV Channel
Shikhar Agrawal, an accused in the mob violence in Bulandshahr that broke out over alleged cow slaughter and led to the death of a police officer on 3 December, has reportedly said that the incident was not a premeditated move, but a sudden breakout.
In an interview with ABP News on Sunday, 9 December, Agrawal, who is apparently the president of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Bulandshahr city, said:
He further told the news channel that the "inspector had provoked the crowd" and "threatened to shoot if people did not disperse."
Accused Soldier in Bulandshahr Violence Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody
The soldier accused of firing at Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court on Sunday, 9 December.

Soldier Allegedly Involved in Bulandshahr Firing Handed Over to UP STF
Jitendra Malik alias Jeetu Fauji, the army jawan allegedly involved in the Bulandshahr firing in Uttar Pradesh in which a police Inspector and a civilian were killed was handed over to the UP STF around midnight of 8 December.
SSP STF Abhishek Singh said that a preliminary inquiry was done against him and he will be produce in court.
“We've arrested Army jawan Jitendra Malik, he was handed over by Army at 12:50 am. Preliminary interrogation has been done. He is being sent to Bulandshahr and will be produced before court for judicial custody,” he said.
“He accepted he was there when crowd started gathering. Prima facie, it has been found true. It's not yet ascertained if he is the one who shot Inspector or Sumit. He said he went there with villagers, but denied pelting stones on police. Forensic of his mobile will be done,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jeetu’s brother, Dharmendra Malik said that Jeetu was being framed and he can prove that Jeetu wasn’t present at the spot where inspector Subodh Kumar was killed.
“My brother is being trapped in some conspiracy, he's not involved in the killing of the inspector. I have evidence to prove that my brother wasn't present at the site where the incident took place. I request CM to help me,” he said.
Soldier Allegedly Involved in Bulandshahr Firing Detained
Soldier allegedly involved in the Bulandshahr firing in Uttar Pradesh in which a police Inspector and a civilian were killed was detained by his unit in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, army sources told IANS.
Jitendra Malik alias Jeetu Fauji was detained by the 22 Rashtriya Rifles in Sopore town. A special investigation team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh Police was expected to reach here later to take him into custody.
Bulandshahr SSP Transferred to DGP Headquarters in Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday transferred Bulandshahr SSP Krishna Bahadur Singh to the DGP office in Lucknow, five days after two people, including an inspector, were killed in violence following an alleged cow slaughter incident.

Will Corporate With Police over Jawan Accused in Bulandshahr Killing: Army Chief
Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat on Saturday, 8 December said that that the army will fully cooperate with police if there is any credible evidence against the jawan who is accused in the Bulandshahr killing.
Rawat’s statement came after a police team was reportedly sent to Jammu to nab the Indian Army soldier Jeetu who is posted in the state. Army sources in Delhi also told PTI the police have contacted the Northern Command and were being given fullest cooperation.
Meanwhile, IG Crime SK Bhagat confirmed on Friday that five more arrests have been made in connection with Inspector Subodh Singh's death, taking the number of those arrested to nine.
Two Police Officials Transferred After Bulandshahr Clash
Two police officials have been transferred in connection to the mob violence in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr town earlier this week where an inspector and a civilian were killed, authorities told news agency IANS on Saturday.
Acting on a report submitted by the Additional Director General of Police S.B. Shiradkar, Circle Officer (CO) Satya Prakash Sharma and Suresh Kumar, the in-charge of Chingravathi police chowki, have been transferred "for their failure in responding in time to the situation arising on Monday in that area".
A senior home department official said they have been taken to task for not being fast enough in reacting to the situation that arose after some Hindu right-wing activists found some animal carcasses in the field and took them on tractor trolleys to block a road.

“If any evidence like a picture or a video emerges showing he killed the policeman, then I will kill him myself,” said the mother of the army soldier, Jeetendra, reported The Hindustan Times. As was claimed through some videos of the incident, Jeetendra had reportedly shot dead the police inspector Subodh Kumar during the violence in Bulandshahr.
“I’m not so heartless. I’m equally pained by the death of the policeman and the other boy from Chingrawathi and also for what the entire village and its people are going through,” she said.
She alleged that the cops had raided their house at Mahaw village and even damaged household goods.

Shots Fired by Army Soldier Killed SHO, Say Sources
According to sources, a soldier has emerged as a key suspect in the killing of the SHO, who appeared in the video where the mob has turned violent over suspicion of cow slaughter, reported NDTV.
Fauji Jeetu, an army soldier, who is posted in Srinagar, is suspected to have fired the shot that led to the death of the cop. The suspect has reportedly fled to Srinagar. A police team has been sent to Jammu and Kashmir to track him down.

New Video of Bulandshahr Clashes Shows Sumit Pelting Stones: Report
A a new video that has surfaced of the Bulandshahr clashes suggests that Sumit, the civilian who died, may have been part of the mob indulging in stone-pelting, reported NDTV.
The new video shows the mob saying 'maaro maaro' as it runs amok in its clash with the police.
An injured Sumit is also apparently seen in the video, being carried by others.
The Quint could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
Four People Arrested in Connection With Alleged Cow Slaughter: Report
Four people have reportedly been arrested by the UP police in connection with the alleged cow slaughter that led to clashes in UP's Bulandshahr, leaving one police officer and one civilian dead.
Among those arrested are Sarfuddin, Sajid, Asif and Nanhe – all of whom are adults, reported The Indian Express. The arrest of Sarfuddin and Sajid led the police to the other two, with the police saying that they have substantial evidence against them.
The FIR in the cow slaughter case had named seven Muslims hailing from Nayabans village.
While the names of Sarfuddin and Sajid do figure in the FIR, those of Asif and Nanhe don't.
Earlier, two minors were called to the police station after their names figured in the FIR.
However, the police told The Indian Express that "there is only one minor and we have not arrested him".
It was also reported earlier that around 70 policemen had visited the Nayabans village, 45 kilometres from Bulandshahr, on Monday to identify the seven accused of cow slaughter. Standing at the centre of the village, the policemen called out the accused, and the two minors were the only ones whose names matched, the report said.

Bajrang Dal's Yogesh Raj claimed innonence in a video released two days after SHO Subodh Kumar and a civilian were killed in mob violence over alleged cow slaughter, saying that he was not involved in the stone-pelting and firing incident that took place at the Chingrawati police chowki in UP's Bulandshahr.
Raj questioned why would the Bajrang Dal take part in the protests when their demand of filing a complaint was met, adding that he was confident of getting justice.

It was not clear whether any decision was taken to act against those responsible for killing of Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and 20-year-old bystander Sumit Kumar in the mob violence.

While the timing and the location of the incident fuels suspicion as nearly 10 lakh Muslims had come to Bulandshahr to attend a three-day Islamic congregation that was to end on Monday, and the devotees were to take the Bulandshahr-Garhmukteshwar Highway to return, the Bulandshahr police has categorically denied the claim on Twitter.
According to a report by CNN-News18, nearly a hundred men reached the Chingravati police post on the highway. The police tried to reason with the mob but it turned violent.

2 FIRs Filed in Bulandshahr Violence Case
Police have lodged two FIRs in Bulandshahr case – one FIR is against the alleged cattle slaughter and the other against the violent protests which followed.
27 people have been named while 60 unnamed people are mentioned in the FIR.
Bajrang Dal leader Yogesh Raj has been named in the FIR along with BJP youth wing member Shikhar Agrawal and VHP member Upendra Raghav.
Dead Meat was Hanging in the Field: Rajkumar Bhaskar
Rajkumar Bhaskar, the first administrative officer to reach the spot, told CNN-News18 that dead cow meat was hanging in the sugarcane field.
Speaking to the news channel, Bhaskar said, “It is strange because anybody who would indulge in cow slaughter would not put it out for display knowing the situation in the state. It was visible from far away.”

UP CM Announces Ex-Gratia Payment
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced compensation of Rs 40 lakh for the inspector’s wife, Rs 10 lakh for the parents and a government job for a family member, reported ANI.
Expressing grief over the deaths in Bulandshahr violence, the CM has also sought a probe report into the incident within two days, according to an official statement.
Who was Subodh Kumar?
Subodh Kumar, the police inspector who was killed on Monday, 3 December, in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district during a clash over reports of illegal slaughter, was the investigating officer in the Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case.
Anand Kumar, ADG (Law and Order) confirmed that Kumar was the investigating officer in the case from 28 September 2015 till 9 November 2015. However, the charge sheet was filed in the case by a different IO in March 2016.
SIT to Probe the Matter
Sharing details about the incident, ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be probing the matter. An inquiry by ADG intelligence and a magisterial probe will also be undertaken into the incident.
Apart from the two deceased, a few other police personnel and civilians were also injured, but not critically, the ADG said.
What Happened on 3 December?
One police inspector and a civilian were killed during a clash over rumours of illegal cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district on Monday, 3 December.
Police Inspector Subodh Kumar, of Syana police station, was shot and hit by a stone-pelting mob, and was rushed to the Aurangabad Community Health Centre (CHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Meanwhile, a man identified as Sumit reportedly suffered a bullet injury during the protests and died at the Meerut hospital.
According to sub-inspector Suresh Kumar, an eyewitness in the killing of Uttar Pradesh Police Inspector Subodh Kumar, around 300-500 people had attacked the entire police force, reported ANI.
