BMC Holds Everybody Responsible for Mumbai Floods, Except Itself
Earlier the Shiv Sena had complimented the civic body for ensuring that Mumbai floods did not “go out of hand”.
In a report on the Mumbai floods after heavy downpour on 29 August, the BMC blamed the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the traffic department and Railways except for its own mismanagement, News 18 reported.
According to News 18, the BMC in its report wrote that the IMD failed to issue a warning well in advance for the city to take precautions. It also said that the Central Railways lacked coordination to manage the trains when the tracks were waterlogged.
It blamed the traffic department for mishandling the flood situation.
IMD's Deputy Director General, KG Hosalikar, had told The Quint over the phone that as per routine duty, the IMD had informed relevant agencies in Mumbai of the approaching rains two days before it happened.
When Mumbai was struggling under the impact of heavy rains, Shiv Sena, the party that governs the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, had complimented the civic body for ensuring that the situation did not “go out of hand”.
At least 20 people died due to severe rainfall in Mumbai. A day after the rain, several buildings collapsed in and around the city.
