BJP Leader Abducted in Kashmir, Rescued: J&K Police

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member in Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Mehrajuddin Malla, who was allegedly abducted by an unknown person on the morning of Wednesday, 15 July, has been rescued.

“Mehraj Din Malla, BJP leader and vice-president of Watergam Municipal Committee in Baramulla who was abducted earlier on Wednesday has been rescued by the police, ANI quoted Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar as saying.

Earlier, officials had reportedly informed news agency PTI that he was allegedly abducted at Marazigund in Rafiabad area of Barmulla, while he was en route to Sopore.

The reason for his abduction is not known yet.

According to his family, Malla was abducted while he was going to a friend's house for attending a marriage ceremony.

Earlier, Malla's family had requested the abductors to release him in a video message put out by his daughter, IANS reported.

After his abduction, the police had launched a major search operation in the area to trace him.
